Markus Rooth

Paris, Aug 3 (PL) Norwegian Markus Rooth surprised today on the track of the Stade de France by winning, against all odds, the gold medal in the declathlon of the Paris 2024 Olympic.

With an eighth place in the last world championship as his best historical performance, the 22-year-old European had a spectacular second day to finish with a score of 8796 and displace his rivals.

Germany's Leo Neugebauer, with 8748 units, won the silver medal and Grenada's Victor Lindon took bronze with 8711.

Damian Warner, gold medalist in the Tokyo 2020 summer event and silver medalist in the 2023 world championship, did not finish the competition after making three mistakes in the high jump.
