Havana, Aug 14 (JIT) A delegation made up of five members will represent Cuba during the XI World Championship of Basque Pelota Under-22 in 36-meter Fronton of Pamplona 2024, in Spain.

The Antilleans Adrián Delgado and Julio César Domínguez will compete in hand pelota; while Norge Jústiz, Yohan Martínez and Dariel Cruz will compete in paleta with leather ball and short spade (tool). Cruz will also compete in the cesta punta specialty.

Coaches Ramses Ortiz and Orlando Colomina will accompany the team which, according to statements made to JIT by Lázaro Mendoza Simón, president of the Cuban Fronton Federation, began its intensive preparation for this event last January.

The world championship will be held at the Labrit fronton court from August 25 to 31.

The national teams of France, Bolivia, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Cuba and Spain will play a total of 61 matches, the first of which is expected to take place between the host team and the French short paddle team.

The Cubans who will attend the competition will seek to equal or surpass the performance of the last tournament, hosted by the Spanish cities of Íscar-Vallelado in 2021.
