Cuba vs Tunisia

Havana, Aug 29 (ACN) Cuba defeated Tunisia 3-1 today in the beginning of the battle for places nine to 16 of the 1st U17 men's volleyball World Championship, to be held until Saturday in Sofia, Bulgaria.

According to the International Federation website www.fivb.com, the Cubans won in four sets, after falling in the first, 23-25, and winning the remaining three, 25-22, 25-14 and 25-21, with highlights for team captain Yosdani Medina, top scorer of the match with 21 points, 19 in attack and six in blocking.

Andy Lázaro Marrero (21/19-2-0) and Samuel Alejandro Rodríguez (10/-1-0) were also outstanding for Cuba, while Jasser Mefteh (18/17-0-1) stood out for Tunisia.

Collectively, the Cubans were better in attack, 57 points to 48, and blocking (15-5), while the Tunisians scored three more points in service (5-2) and gave up one less due to their own errors.

With this result, Cuba will play this Friday for positions nine through 12 and will have as opponent the winner of today's match between Libya and Puerto Rico.
