6th Caribbean Baseball Cup
Nassau, Oct 27 (JIT) - The Cuban national team returned to the path of victory in the 6th Caribbean Baseball Cup after defeating the host Bahamas 5x2 on Saturday.
Alexander Urquiola's team warmed up quickly, as if to shake off the previous day's setback against the United States Virgin Islands, and scored runs from very early on.
Three runs in the second episode, two driven in by Francisco Martínez with a long homer and another by Carlos de la Tejera, plus another pair in the third, towed in by Yulieski Remón and Darian Palma, were enough for a lead that would eventually be definitive.
On the mound, Guantanamo's left-handed starter Enyer Fernández pitched well for 3.1 innings, but then allowed the two runs and was substituted.
In relief, right-hander Osdany Rodríguez, winner of the game, took over, and right-hander Rafael Perdomo closed the seventh, both with no runs allowed.
For the opposing team, right-hander Tahnaj Thomas remained the whole time, and although he stabilized from the fourth inning on, he could not avoid the setback.
This Sunday at 3:00 p.m., Urquiola's team, which has accumulated three wins and one loss, will conclude the qualifying stage against the Curaçao team, which has the same win-loss record.
Next Monday, the top two teams in the standings will go for the gold medal at night, and the third and fourth placed teams will play for the bronze medal.
