Messi
Havana, Feb 19 (RHC) - Argentine star Lionel Messi starts tonight the 22nd season of his career since his professional debut with Barça in 2004-05.
He will do it with Inter Miami in the first official match of the North Americans in this 2025 season (MLS plays on a calendar year). It will be in a match corresponding to the first round (or 1/16 final) of the ConcaChampions (first leg) in a match that was postponed for 24 hours due to the snow and cold temperatures (wind chill of -15 degrees) that were forecast for Tuesday night in Kansas City.
Tonight the conditions will not be much better, but it looks like it will be possible to play in a stadium that is not roofed and that, according to Inter, will see Lionel Messi on the pitch... despite these conditions.
The 22nd season of the Argentine star will have many challenges, with at least four important titles at stake: the MLS (Inter was regular league champion in 2024, although eliminated later); the ConcaChampions (where Inter begins its journey today); the Club World Cup (shares group with Palmeiras, Porto and Al Ahly); and the Leagues Cup (now official tournament that mixes MLS and Liga MX teams).
An important campaign for Leo, as Messi has signed a contract with Inter until the end of 2025. His contract extension depends on him (for the club there would be no problem), but 2025 will be crucial for that... and to see if finally the Argentine crack is encouraged to play in the World Cup 2026.
Recall that Messi has already won two titles with Inter: the MLS Supporters' Shield 2024 (MLS regular league) and the Leagues Cup 2023. In 2025 he wants to continue to fatten his record and today Leo's path begins.
