Havana, Mar 16 (RHC) - Getting at least one place in each gender and modality will be the main aspiration of the Cubans who will participate in the second qualifying archery tournament for the II Junior Pan American Games of Asuncion 2025.

The event, convened in the Argentine city of Buenos Aires between the 19th and 23rd of this month, will distribute 30 quotas to round up those granted a year ago in the initial event held in El Salvador.

The Cuban team will be made up of three exponents of the compound bow and four of the recurve, under the direction of Roylán Guanche and Aliesky Reyes, respectively.

Stefani Delgado, Melani Rodríguez, Abraham Pérez, and Luis Javier Sánchez will be the contenders in the recurve modality, with the mission of qualifying as a team, which in this case is made up of only two members.

For more than a decade, the Cuban federation did not have the necessary compound bows to promote high performance, a situation that changed two years ago thanks to some donations received.

In the first qualifying competition, held in May 2024, the sport's powers such as Mexico (6), Colombia (5), and Brazil (4) won places.

Other nations, such as Canada, Chile, and Guatemala, added three slots each and may add others in the next event. Costa Rica (2), Bermuda (1), Dominican Republic (1), Bolivia (1), and Peru (1) also have tickets reserved.
