Noslen Díaz and Jorge Luis Alayo

Havana, Apr 17 (JIT) - Cubans Noslen Diaz and Jorge Luis Alayo lost in two sets to Canadians Samuel Schachter and Jonathan Pickett in the opening of the fourth phase of the Elite tournament of the World Beach Volleyball Pro Tour 2025, based in Brasilia.

The northerners won with partials of 21-14 and 21-15 by showing superiority in blocking (7-0) and service (5-0), although in attacks they tied at 22 and committed one error less than the Antilleans (7-8).

Pickett was the top scorer with 20 points (10 attacks, 7 blocks, 3 aces), followed by his partner, who added 14 (12-0-2). Alayo scored 12 and Diaz 10, all on spikes.

Thus, the Cubans will have to beat Sweden's Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson this Friday to secure the third place in group D.

The duo from the Greater of the Antilles arrived in the Brazilian capital with a record of 12 wins and three defeats in a campaign in which, in addition to the Quintana Roo crown, they have already finished fifth in Yucatan and Saquarema.

They appear eighth in the universal list with 5820 units, including the results of five stops last year.
