Washington, August 10 (RHC)-- In the United States, former Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders said: "To many Brazilians and observers the controversial impeachment process against Dilma Rousseff more closely resembles a coup d'etat."
In a statement issued by the senator's office, he said that the United States must stand up for democracy in Brazil and demand that its political crisis be resolved with new elections. He added: "I am deeply concerned by the current effort to remove Brazil's democratically elected president, Dilma Rousseff." Sanders, the runner-up to Hillary Clinton in the race for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination, had harsh criticism of the Brazilian coup.
