London, November 6 (RHC)-- Organization of American States head Luis Almagro arrived in London and was "warmly" welcomed by a group of protesters, calling for an end to OAS interventions in the internal affairs of Venezuela and other sovereign nations.
An organizer for the protest told reporters that Latin America's political history has been plagued with U.S. interference from as far back 1823 with the Monroe Doctrine. Proclaiming "America for the Americans," the Doctrine declared the region to be under U.S. influence because it was in their 'backyard.' She said that currently, Washington --together with the OAS -- is sponsoring coups and regime-change operations throughout the region.
For many people in Latin America, there is one man who is perceived as the chief accomplice for the U.S. in the region and that man is Luis Almagro -- the Secretary-General of the Organization of American States.
Almagro was in London speaking at the Senate-House and there were clashes between rival right-wing and left-wing groups inside and outside the hall.
Since taking office at the OAS, Luis Almagro has supported military intervention in Venezuela and continues to support U.S. sanctions against Cuba and Venezuela.
