Bogotá, May 28 (PL-RHC) -- In Bogotá, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos has pointed out that the intention of his rival in the presidential race, Oscar Ivan Zuluaga, to suspend the talks with the FARC guerrillas temporarily if he wins the election would end the peace process.
The candidate from the Democratic Center Party, created by ex President Alvaro Uribe, told reporters on Monday that if he wins the election, the same day he takes office he would decree a provisional end to dialogue. He also set conditions to the FARC.
In statements to Caracol Television, Santos pointed out that his rival has set impossible conditions, that is, he wants to end the process. He said: “I, in turn, want to end the dialogue successfully.”
Referring to his campaign for re-election three weeks before the second round of voting, the head of State invited all peace-loving Colombians to vote for him.
After learning the results of the first round on Sunday, Santos called all three former candidates who ran for the presidency (Polo Democratico-Union Patriotica, Partido Conservador and Alianza Verde) to join what he called a campaign for peace and hope.
The decisive second round of presidential elections in Colombia will take place on Sunday, June 15th.
