Mexico City, March 26 (RHC)-- The president of Boliva, Luis Arce, during an official visit to Mexico and a public event held to commemorate the day of the Victory of Chakán Putum, called for the implementation of the United Nations Declaration on Indigenous Rights.

"Mexico and Bolivia as brotherly countries have resumed the historical relations of fraternity" that were paralyzed by the coup d'état in Bolivia in 2020," highlighted Luis Arce, in Champotón, Campeche, where the tribute took place.

"The Plurinational State of Bolivia, due to its integrationist vocation, will work to strengthen regionalism by supporting spaces for consultation and dialogue such as the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), whose pro tempore presidency is held by Mexico," said the Bolivian president.

The head of state emphasized that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the ancestral wisdom of the indigenous peoples has gained validity and visibility.  Luis Arce affirmed that in the face of the coronavirus, natural and traditional medicine has been one of the best responses in the prevention of the pandemic.

"We have the responsibility to incorporate these good practices in our health systems," said the Bolivian politician.  At the same time, he affirmed that the government is making efforts to vaccinate the population without exception.

For his part, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), in his speech at the commemorative event, said that the same and similar concepts of Spanish colonization against the indigenous people are still being repeated.

This situation has caused the indigenous people to feel discriminated against, said the Mexican President. "Discrimination against indigenous people comes from social classes," he added and urged people to take up the fight against classism, discrimination and racism.
