During an interview tih Portuguese TV, Lula da Silva said he might run for president next year

Brasilia, April 3 (RHC)-- Former Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva revealed this Friday the possibility of running as a candidate for the 2022 presidential election, during an interview with Portuguese TV station RTP.

Lula referred to that possibility by pointing out that if he needed to work for the country and was in good health, he would run in the next presidential election.

"I don't need to be a candidate for president of the Republic, necessarily.  Obviously, I am not going to say no, nor yes.  We will wait for the arrival of 2022.  We will need to know what the political panorama will be like," the former president said in his interview with to RTP.

The founder of the Workers' Party said in other interviews that his candidacy is not his personal priority and he would wait until 2022 to decide.

During the interview, the former president said that what is obvious is that "Bolsonaro cannot continue to govern Brazil."

Lula downplayed the importance of the crisis in Brazil after the departure of the Minister of Defense, General Fernando Azevedo e Silva, which implied the resignation of the commanders of the Army, Navy and Air Force.

"The changes Bolsonaro made are normal.  The president had a disagreement with the Minister of Defense and decided to change ministers.  I don't see this as a sign of crisis," he said.  When asked about the former judge and former Minister of Justice Sérgio Moro, he stated that he was "a caricature invented by the Brazilian press and became almost a demigod."

Brazil's Supreme Federal Court (STF) announced last Tuesday that, due to the political bias of Judge Sergio Moro, all decisions made by him during the trial against former president Luiz Ignacio da Silva are declared null and void.

"We have always pointed out and proved that Moro never acted as a judge, but as a personal and political opponent of former President Lula, as was recognized by the majority of the eminent Ministers of the II Panel of the Federal Supreme Court," said Lula da Silva's lawyers, Cristiano Zanin Martins and Valeska TZ Martins.
