La Paz, April 12 (RHC)-- Opposition candidates are ahead of the candidates of the ruling Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) in the second round elections held on Sunday, in which Bolivians elected the governors of the departments of La Paz, Chuquisaca, Tarija and Pando.

The Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) of Bolivia reported on its Twitter account that the four departments have by law until next Sunday to proclaim the winners of these sub-regional elections.  On Sunday, elections were held due to the fact that in the first electoral round, which took place last March 7, within the framework of regional and municipal elections, no candidate obtained more than 50 percent of the votes or more than 40 percent with 10 points of difference over the second most voted candidacy.

This Sunday, Franklin Flores, from MAS, and Santos Quispe, from the Jallalla alliance, contested for the governorship of La Paz; for Tarija, Álvaro Ruiz, from MAS, and Óscar Montes, from Unidos por Tarija; for Chuquisaca, Damián Condori Herrera, from Chuquisaca Somos Todos, and Juan Carlos León, from MAS; and for Pando, Regis Richter, from MTS, and Miguel Becerra, from MAS.

According to the official preliminary vote count, in La Paz, Quispe obtains 60.88 of the votes, while Flores registers 39.12 of the votes, with 32.41 percent of the votes counted.

In Tarija, where 45.67 percent of the precincts have been counted, Montes has 59.94 percent of the votes and Ruiz obtains 40.06 percent.

In Chuquisaca, Condori Herrera accumulates 71.32 percent of the votes, while Leon receives 28.68 percent, with 31.67 percent of the precincts counted.

In Pando, where 64.29 percent of the precincts have been counted, Richter has 59.38 percent of the votes, while Becerra has 40.62 percent.

According to the electoral calendar, the new authorities of the regional and municipal governments of Bolivia will take office next May 3rd.
