French march against climate policy

Paris, May 10 (RHC)-- Tens of thousands in Paris and more than one hundred thousand all over France took the street in a massive protest against the climate law, voted last week in the French parliament.

The demonstrations took place in a festive atmosphere, with a lot of colors and animation, and with a lot of young people, coming from different social backgrounds.  Observers say that awareness is rising and more people are convinced that significant measures have to be taken to save the planet.  But, they say,  that's not what the French authorities are doing.

Last week, the French parliament voted a climate law after a record 110 hours of debate.  The High Council for the Climate, an independent body, declared that the French measures are insufficient to reduce greenhouse gases. The European Union as well is strengthening its ambitions to halt global warming.
