Bogota, May 24 (RHC)-- The National Strike Committee of Colombia has called for demonstrations over the next several days as a show of support for the motion of censure in Congress against Colombia's Minister of Defense Diego Molano.
The protesters blame Molano for the crimes and human rights violations committed by the police and the army and the Mobile Anti-Riot Squadron in the context of social protests.
The Committee proposed to generate large mobilizations from the municipalities to the capitals of each department, for this Wednesday, May 26th, with the objective that the government accepts the peaceful demonstrations, which is an essential condition in the negotiations to get out of the crisis in the country.
Likewise, it was proposed to participate in a caravan of solidarity with the people of Valle de Cauca and Cali, one of the epicenters of police repression in the more than 20 days of protests.
The departmental and municipal strike committees were also called upon to report the violent actions of the security forces, through photos, videos and written reports of the events.
Women and LGBTI collectives have suffered the most from police repression with rapes and physical harm. According to the Ombudsman's Office, 106 cases of violence against women and LGBTI persons were registered as of May 21.
