Lima, June 30 (RHC)--A supporter of the Peru Libre party and of the virtual Peruvian president-elect, Pedro Castillo, died on Tuesday, days after being attacked by pro-Fujimori supporters, when he was carrying out a sit-in in defense of the vote.

The deceased was identified as Sacarías Meneses Taco, 56 years old, who died as a result of head injuries suffered on June 24th outside the headquarters of the National Jury of Elections (JNE).

"We regret to report that our comrade Zacarías Meneses Taco from (the department of) Ayacucho has died," the press office of the Peru Libre party stated on its Twitter social network account.

"This is a product of the violent attacks of the Fujimoristas, the blows they dealt him in the head left him seriously injured.  Rest in peace, comrade.  We will never forget you," the movement expressed in its tweet.

Meneses Taco was injured after sides of Peru Libre and the right-wing Popular Force party, which ran Keiko Fujimori for president, clashed while defending the vote.
