Bogota, July 9 (RHC)-- The Colombian Minister of Defense, Diego Molano, held a news conference in Bogota to report that the Colombians involved in the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse are retired members of the Army and not active-duty.

Speaking with national and international journalists, Molano said that the International Police (Interpol) officially requested information to the Colombian Government and the National Police about the perpetrators of the crime that occurred early Wednesday morning in the Caribbean nation.

"Initially the information indicates that they are Colombian citizens, retired members of the National Army," said the Minister of Defense.  "We have given instructions on behalf of the national government to our police and the army to immediately collaborate in the development of this investigation so that these facts are clarified," he said.

Molano underlined that the Colombian Public Force will offer "all its disposition (...) to the sister Republic of Haiti."

This Thursday, the general director of the Haitian Police, Leon Charles, specified that 28 mercenaries participated in the assassination of Moïse.  They are two Americans and 26 Colombians.  The Haitian official specified that 15 mercenaries are in the hands of the police (among them the two Americans).  The rest have either been killed or are on the run.
