Quito, September 29 (RHC)-- Ecuadorian social movements and feminist collectives marched on Tuesday in favor of decriminalizing abortion -- making it legal and free, despite conservative groups threatening to silence the protest in Quito.

The march took place in the afternoon, but groups began gathering in the early morning hours to protest and the International Day for the Decriminalization of Abortion in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Demonstrators said that a law for abortion in case of rape is being processed in the National Assembly, after the Constitutional Court decriminalized these cases, which requested to strategically influence in the construction of such law.

In this context, in the Legislative Palace of the National Assembly, the parliamentary group for women's rights informed that they will present the normative advances for the decriminalization of abortion in Ecuador.
