Bogota, July 3 (Xinhua-RHC) -- Three soldiers struck landmines and were killed in a minefield allegedly laid by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in the northeastern Norte de Santander department of Colombia, the Uniradio network reported Wednesday.
Commander of the army's second division, Fernando Pineda, told local media that the army regretted the death of the three soldiers, warning more casualties are feared as there are residents in the peripheral area of the minefield in Catatumbo.
The victims belonged to the Colombian army's second division and they were on patrol when the incident occurred.
On Tuesday evening, FARC insurgents attacked a police station in the country's northeastern Las Mercedes municipality with explosives, causing property damage. Local authorities have tightened security and asked people to be alert.
