FSLN supporters celebrate victory in Nicaraguan elections
Managua, November 8 (RHC)-- Supporters of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) took to the streets across Nicaragua early Monday morning after the first official results of Sunday's elections were announced, giving the virtual victory to current President Daniel Ortega.
The Sandinista rallies began after the closing of the polls and increased as the hours passed while waiting for the first bulletin provided by the Supreme Electoral Council (CSE). Images of the celebrations were seen in Managua, the capital of the Central American country, as well as in the main cities such as León, Granada, Estelí and Chinandega.
After midnight local time, the President of the CSE, Brenda Rocha, revealed the first electoral results with the counting of nearly 50 percent of the votes. Based on this information, President Daniel Ortega, who is running for reelection for the 2022-2027 term, received 74.99 percent of the votes cast.
The CSE plans to release the final results of the elections next Sunday.
