Quito, December 6 (RHC)-- The Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie) ratified this weekend its state of resistance due to the lack of response from the Ecuadorian government headed by President Guillermo Lasso, to the proposals presented by Indigenous organizations.

Conaie reported that six months ago, the indigenous movement and social sectors have been developing proposals on issues of national interest and for this they went to dialogue with the Government, "but Lasso mocks the harsh reality of thousands of Ecuadorian families without giving an answer.  In view of this, we ratify the resistance."

For his part, Conaie's president, Leonidas Iza Salazar wrote: "This is how Guillermo Lasso and a government incapable of responding to the country's economic problems and the legitimate proposals made by the Indigenous Movement and hundreds of social organizations act.  We entered the dialogue without renouncing the right to resistance."

After the round of dialogues to which CONAIE refers, held on November 10th, Salazar himself had indicated that the Government of Ecuador had committed itself to respond to the demands within approximately 15 days.

On the other hand, regarding the same conversations, the Minister of Governance Juan Manuel Fuertes had announced that the national government would have the demands satisfied by December 1st.

The truth is that the 15-day and first of December deadlines have passed and no official entity has made any statement on the matter, not even to ask for more time.  Among the demands made are the stabilization of diesel and gasoline prices, the curbing of labor precariousness, among others.
