New York, January 4 (RHC)-- The eldest children of former President Donald Trump, Ivanka and Donald Jr., are not planning to comply with subpoenas from the New York attorney general. New York Attorney General Letitia James and an attorney for the Trump Organization made the announcement in a document they jointly filed on Monday.
“A dispute has arisen between the OAG and the Individual Trump Parties regarding the Subpoenas,” read the document. Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump will now be named as respondents in James’ ongoing inquiry, which parallels a criminal investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.
The Republican leader has asserted that New York City investigation into the Trump Organization is “a continuation of the greatest Witch Hunt of all time."
Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr. and New York Attorney General Letitia James, both Democrats, are the two main figures behind the charges against the organization. The charges are related to the organization’s financial dealings as well as alleged attempts to inflate asset values in order to mislead investors.
One investigation started as a civil one in New York but later expanded to a criminal one. The billionaire businessman has always suggested that investigations into his deeds are politically motivated but to this day no court or special counsel probe has managed to hold him accountable.
“As her investigation into financial dealing of the Trump Organization continues, Attorney General James is seeking interviews under oath of Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Ivanka Trump," a spokesperson for the AG's office said. "Despite numerous attempts to delay our investigation by the Trump Organization, we are confident that our questions will be answered and the truth will be uncovered because no one is above the law.”
