Caracas, February 4 (RHC)-- Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro said on Friday that the rebellion of February 4, 1992 had an anti-oligarchic and anti-imperialist character, which served as a basis and awakening for what would lead to the Bolivarian Revolution.

"February 4 was a revolutionary, Bolivarian and humanist rebellion against the corrupt oligarchy and against the imperialism of the International Monetary Fund," said the president following a huge mobilization in Caracas, the Venezuelan capital, for the 30th anniversary.

Nicolas Maduro also paid homage to the fallen and recognized all the people who bravely faced the dark reality that Venezuela was living.  The president recalled the national and international context of three decades ago, when imperialism was advancing around the world, in the context of the fall of the socialist camp and the neoliberal policies promoted in Venezuela by then President Carlos Andrés Pérez.

"30 years have passed since the day of the awakening of conscience, 30 years of a difficult history, 30 years of a historic deed of great battles.  But I can say 30 years later, in the spirit of Commander (Hugo) Chávez.   Commander: here are the people of Venezuela in permanent revolution, in rebellion!"

President Maduro spoke about other important historical moments prior and subsequent to February 4, 1992, such as El Caracazo in 1989, and the coming to power of Comandante Chávez in the December 1998 elections.

Likewise, he highlighted the principle defended by Commander Chávez of achieving Venezuelan political and economic independence through peace.  "From the Venezuela of February 27, of February 4, 92, of the armed confrontation, Chávez built together with our people a path for peace, for democratic advancement, for the empowerment of the people," he added, adding that this wish has been fulfilled after 29 elections.

30 years of that "for now" -- "por ahora" -- that forever changed the history of Venezuela, thanks to our Cmdr. Chávez and the brave soldiers of "Operation Zamora."
