Lima, February 6 (RHC)-- Peruvian Prime Minister Hector Valer announced on Saturday his resignation just four days after being sworn in by President Pedro Castillo.

"I recognize my defeat," Valer said as he left the seat of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, due to the constant attack by the country's largest media group, in reference to the revelation of a history of domestic violence that led to the general rejection of his nomination.

The Peruvian congressman denied the veracity of the accusations against him and called on the sectors that support President Castillo to remain united in the face of the attempts of the Peruvian right wing to promote political chaos in the South American country.

According to the congressman for Democratic Peru, the media attack against him is part of a new opposition strategy to delegitimize President Pedro Castillo's team of ministers.  The Peruvian head of state announced on Friday night his intention to renew the cabinet again, due to the fact that the Parliament refused to immediately receive the Prime Minister and pronounce on his request for ratifying confidence.

Pedro Castillo's appointment of Valer as head of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers generated strong controversy, as the Democratic Peru congressman faced allegations of macho aggression by his daughter and his late wife.

Héctor Valer ruled out that President Castillo had proposed him any other portfolio because it is "necessary to build bridges" to reach a consensus.
