Santiago de Chile, May 15 (RHC)-- The Chilean Ministry of Defense confirmed this Saturday that the head of the portfolio, Maya Fernández Allende, was the victim of a robbery at her home, noting that both she and her family are out of danger.

At least three armed people entered the home located in the commune of Ñuñoa, in Santiago de Chile, where they tied up the husband of the Secretary of State, and then fled with goods and a vehicle.

The Carabineros and the Investigative Police are working to clarify the facts.   "At the time of the break-in, the Secretary of State was not at home, where her son and her husband were," adds the communiqué of the Ministry of Defense.

The prosecutor in charge of the case, Francisco Lara, detailed that the delinquents approached the son and then the husband of the Minister and then fled in a vehicle owned by the family of Fernández Allende, "one of the subjects was carrying a knife and another one what would be a firearm, a revolver", he said.

So far there have been no arrests for this crime and the Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, regretted the incident and assured that he spoke with Minister Fernandez on Friday night.

In an apparently separate incident, on the same night, one of the bodyguards working in the security team of President Gabriel Boric was assaulted and shot in the arm when he was approached by a group of people while he was inside one of the official vehicles of the Presidency.

"We have committed concrete actions to go after organized crime", which is believed to be behind the increase in crime, Monsalve said, in relation to the events of Friday night.
