Bogota, July 6 (RHC)-- The president-elect of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, appointed this Tuesday within his future cabinet Carolina Corcho as minister of Health, Cecilia López Montaño as head of Agriculture and Susana Muhamad as head of the Ministry of Environment.

Petro confirmed these names through an interview granted to national media and they join the team where Patricia Ariza will assume the Ministry of Culture, José Antonio Ocampo the Ministry of Finance and Álvaro Leyva as Chancellor.

Doctor in Psychiatry, Carolina Corcho, originally from Medellin and a graduate of the University of Antioquia and the National University, became known during the pandemic as vice-president of the Colombian Medical Federation when she denounced the difficult conditions of doctors in the country.

The future Minister of Agriculture, Cecilia López, former senator and pre-candidate for the presidency in 2010, served as Minister of Agriculture and Environment, as well as Director of National Planning during the government of Ernesto Samper.

Likewise, Susana Muhamad, appointed in Environment, was Secretary of Environment in Bogota during Petro's administration, where she developed the Climate Change Plan. Currently, she is a Councilor of Bogota in the Colombia Humana party.

The president-elect of Colombia has decided the incumbent positions of six portfolios highlighting the majority of four women against two men. However, there are still twelve positions available, which should be announced during the course of this week.

On August 7, Gustavo Petro will take office as president of Colombia for the next four years and is emerging as an option of hope and reconciliation considering the violent history of the country.
