Brasilia, August 6 (RHC)-- In Brazil, federal deputy André Janones (Avante-MG) has announced that he is withdrawing his candidacy for the general elections in Brazil to offer his support to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, candidate for the Workers' Party (PT).

In his profile on the social network Facebook, where he has eight million followers, Janones expressed that "from this moment on, (the candidacy) is unified and will be represented by that of former president Lula.

The decision was announced by Janones after he held an exchange meeting with leaders of the PT and of the campaign of Lula da Silva (PT), the main candidate for the presidency according to several polls.

Lula showed his gratitude and said that, as he did before, to put an end to hunger and inequality in Brazil "is an obsession."  Meanwhile, PT president Gleisi Hoffmann also expressed her gratitude and congratulated Janones for understanding the moment the nation is going through.  "The most important thing we have to do is to unite the forces of the democratic camp and commit ourselves to defend the people who suffer and need clear and permanent policies," said the federal deputy for the state of Paraná.

After Janones' decision, who said that one of the main reasons that moved him to make such determination is to reduce social inequality by confronting the financial system, he will have to present his proposals to the PT in the next few weeks.

André Janones gained national prominence, through social networks, by acting as spokesman for the autonomous truck drivers who went on strike in May 2018, the same year in which he was elected.
