Caracas, July 31 (Xinhua-RHC) -- The leader of Venezuela's opposition alliance, Ramon Guillermo Aveledo, has resigned due to strong internal divisions, but will stay within the alliance, according to an announcement.
The general secretary of Venezuela's opposition coalition Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD) was quoted as saying: "I'm not saying goodbye, what I'm doing is moving places. I'm not leaving this house, but I'm moving to another room."
The ranks of the opposition have split again, with hardline activists turning on Aveledo for not taking a more militant stance against the government during three months of violent anti- government protests this year.
While Aveledo and his camp fiercely attacked the government over its handling of the opposition-led protests that left 43 people dead, they also agreed to take part in reconciliation talks proposed by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, an initiative that hardliners rejected.
There are different currents of thought within the alliance that "limit its political action," said Aveledo, adding the MUD will announce a new general secretary in the coming days.
