Washington, October 21 (RHC)-- The Peruvian government, which is the target of a coup d'état, received unanimous support Thursday from OAS members, who agreed to send an evaluation mission to Lima.  The meeting of the Organization of American States approved a resolution in which it offers "its solidarity and support to the democratically-elected government of the Republic of Peru, as well as to the preservation of the democratic institutionality" of the South American country.

At the same time, it calls on all actors in the Peruvian crisis to ensure that their actions are within the framework of the rule of law.  The OAS also expressed its willingness to provide support and cooperation at the request of the Peruvian Government, through efforts to promote dialogue.

This dialogue, according to the Peruvian request, should bring together the Government, the powers of the State and the organizations of society, in search of political and social consensus.

The assembly agreed to send to Lima a high level group composed of representatives of the OAS member states, in order to "make an analysis of the situation, on which it will report.   In the approval, the firmness of the speeches of the representatives of Argentina, Bolivia and Colombia stood out -- emphasizing that it is the governments of popular roots and of change that suffer from "Lawfare" as the use of legal maneuvers to destabilize governments or neutralize leaders is being called.

Argentinean envoy Carlos Raimundi said that Pedro Castillo's case seemed very familiar to him, in obvious reference to the attempt to block with accusations by the Attorney General's Office and great media support a possible candidacy of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

He pointed out that it is also becoming common the disestablishment by that way, when a country elects a popular leader of less light skin to head a plebeian government, which the economic power refuses to accept.

"There is no prosecutor, no parliamentary sector that can be more legitimate than the will of the people, in this case of the Peruvian people," added Raimundi.

According to the Bolivian representative Héctor Arce, the retrograde power groups of Peru do not tolerate that a humble man, of popular extraction, legally elected, be president and the attacks against Pedro Castillo are like those suffered by Evo Morales and which forced him to resign from the presidency in 2019.

He pointed out that, in spite of the fact that the OAS missions have served purposes alien to democracy, in this case Peru's request is pertinent and Bolivia strongly supports it.

The representative of Colombia, Luis Ernesto Vargas, who like those of Chile and other countries co-sponsored the draft resolution promoted by Peru, expressed his unreserved solidarity with the constitutional government of Pedro Castillo.
