Caracas, January 16 (RHC)-- The Venezuelan Public Prosecutor's Office issued a new arrest warrant against politician Julio Borges, after there are elements of conviction about his participation in the coup attempt of April 30, 2019, announced Monday the attorney general, Tarek William Saab.

In a press conference, the prosecutor said that an arrest warrant was requested against Borges for the crimes of treason, conspiracy and association.  Borges headed certain illicit activities with the purpose of overthrowing the government of President Nicolás Maduro, and that a video released on January 13 was collected, in which the Leopoldo López pointed out that Borges had a direct participation on April 30, 2019.

"I must emphasize that Julio Borges has two previous arrest warrants, one for his direct participation in the theft of the Republic's gold deposited in England, and another for the planning and financing of the attempted assassination against the head of state."

The coup attempt of April 30, 2019, led by Juan Guaido and Leopoldo Lólpez, was intended to assassinate the constitutional president, Nicolás Maduro, and high officials of the Venezuelan government.  Saab related that there are several facts as part of what he called a permanent conspiracy against Venezuelan democracy, since the arrival of Hugo Chávez to the Government in 1999.
