Pope Francis is in hospital for a respiratory infection

Havana, March 29 (RHC) Pope Francis is since Wednesday admitted to the Gemelli Roman hospital for respiratory infection, as informed in a statement by Matteo Bruni, director of the Holy See Press Office.

The Supreme Pontiff will have to stay a few days in the hospital. "In recent days, Pope Francis complained of some respiratory difficulties and this afternoon he went to the A. Gemelli Polyclinic for medical check-ups," Bruni said.

The test result showed “a respiratory infection (excluding COVID-19 infection) that will require a few days of appropriate hospital medical therapy. Pope Francis is moved by the many messages received and expresses his gratitude for the closeness and prayer.

Previously, Bruni had reported that Francisco would undergo scheduled medical check-ups. As usual, the Pope presided this morning at the Wednesday general audience in St. Peter's Square. (Sources: BBC and Vatican News)
