Astana, Jun 25 (RHC) Kazakh President Kasim-Yomart Tokaev on Sunday held an extraordinary meeting with his security cabinet following the military mutiny in Russia and asked everyone to be vigilant.

Tokaev instructed the heads of all agencies to be ready to respond to possible crisis threats, his press office said.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister listened to the reports of the Prime Minister, the Prosecutor General, the head of the National Security Committee, and the heads of defense, foreign and internal affairs, and insisted on ensuring economic and financial stability, as well as the security of fellow citizens.

According to the official statement, the head of state defined Russia as a strategic partner of Kazakhstan, expressed concern over the recent developments, and welcomed the agreement to resolve the situation.

Earlier, in a telephone conversation with the Russian president, Tokaev supported the measures taken to restore constitutional order, although he described what happened as an internal Russian matter.

Kazakhstan and Russia participate together in several alliances such as the Eurasian Economic Union, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The border between the two states, once part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, is the second longest in the world. (Source: PL)
