Brasilia, October 1 (RHC)-- Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is still recovering after undergoing surgery on Friday to relieve hip pain, according to the latest medical report from the capital's Syrian-Lebanese Hospital.

The report indicates that Lula "walked, went up and down stairs, with physiotherapeutic assistance".

It specifies that, due to his recovery sequence, doctors Roberto Kalil Filho, Ana Helena Germoglio and Giancarlo Cavalli Polesello, responsible for the ruler's care, "are evaluating the possibility of discharge for today".

The founder of the Workers' Party underwent two surgical procedures on Friday, September 29. The main one was a total hip arthroplasty (right side), to alleviate pain caused by osteoarthritis, in addition to the correction of deformities and the recovery of joint movement.

The surgery, in practice, replaced the diseased joint in the socket of the leg with the pelvis with an artificial prosthesis.

In the operation, the femoral head and the acetabulum were replaced by ceramic implants. For this, it was necessary to cut part of the bone to install the prosthesis.

Lula was intubated and received general anesthesia due to the complexity of the operation, considered invasive.

Another surgery was blepharoplasty (removal of excess skin from the eyelids), which was not previously communicated by the Presidency of the Republic.

"My surgery is only to take care of my health, I want to play ball (soccer) again, I want to run again, I want to go back to the treadmill, I want to go back to gymnastics. And I have been in pain since August of last year, pain when I sleep, pain when I get up, when I sit down, when I stand up", the Brazlian president state.   (Photo:  Prensa Latina)
