Caracas, October 6 (RHC)-- Venezuela's Prosecutor's Office issued on Thursday an arrest warrant and will request Interpol red alert against former opposition deputy Juan Guaidó, Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab informed in a press conference.
The head of the Public Prosecutor's Office indicated that the arrest warrant was requested for the crime of treason, which is provided for and punished in Article 128 of the Penal Code. The judicial measure against the former opposition deputy was also for the charges of usurpation of functions, provided for and sanctioned in article 213 of the Penal Code.
The Venezuelan attorney general added that the former deputy was charged with profiting from or distraction of money, securities or public assets, provided for and sanctioned in article 81 of the Law Against Corruption; capital legitimization, provided for and sanctioned in article 35 of the Law Against Organized Crime and Financing of Terrorism.
He was also sanctioned for association, foreseen and sanctioned in Article 37 of the Law Against Organized Crime and Financing of Terrorism, crimes of usurpation of functions, legitimization of capital, terrorism, arms trafficking, treason and association, among others.
Tarek William Saab said: "For this reason, we have opened a new investigation against former deputy Juan Guaidó, and we have requested an arrest warrant against him and prosecutors 77, 73 and 74 with national jurisdiction have been appointed for this purpose."
"Guaidó used PDVSA (Petróleos de Venezuela) resources to cause losses close to or greater than $19 billion," said Tarek William Saab.
The arrest warrant and the red alert request to interpol were announced following revelations provided to several media outlets by a federal court in the United States.Tarek William Saab, pointed out that to these crimes are added another five investigations against Juan Guaidó related to irregularities committed in the company Monómeros, for a total of 28 cases against this mafia.
In addition to the use of resources of the state-owned oil company, the prosecutor also detailed the theft of assets and diversion of humanitarian aid funds by the Venezuelan opposition.
In total, 288 arrest warrants have been agreed, 129 people have been detained which have already been charged; there are 13 people with extradition requests
Venezuela's attorney general said that since 2019 they have agreed 288 arrest warrants for investigations involving Guaidó, with 129 collaborators of the opposition leader arrested and 63 accomplices convicted.
