Marwan Abdullah Abu Samrah is seen at his daughter’s bedside in Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Gaza.

Deir al-Balah, January 16 (RHC)-- A Palestinian karate champion who was critically injured in an Israeli strike in the Gaza Strip has died in hospital.

Nagham Abu Samrah, 24, who lost a leg in the airstrike on December 17, succumbed to her wounds in Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah on Monday.  She had been in a coma ever since.

Samrah was supposed to have been evacuated to Egypt for specialist treatment, but never received permission to cross the border.

Her sister died in the same attack.   Her father, Marwan Abdullah Abu Samrah, told Sky News last month that Nagham had been "a glimmer of hope" following the loss of her sister.

Nagham is only one in nearly 24,000 people Israel has brutally killed in Gaza since it launched the aggression in early October.
