Brasilia, February 7 (RHC)-- Brazil's Federal Police on Tuesday raided the home of a man who started a fundraiser to try to assassinate the president of that nation, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Through the operation called Echo, a search warrant was executed at the home of a citizen who started a collection in networks to carry out the assassination, the Ministry of Justice said in a statement.

The operation was carried out in the state of Espírito Santo and its sustenance is the investigation of threats and instigation to a crime of homicide against the president.

Authorities seized the cell phone and computer of the suspect, who cooperated with police.   The investigation began after a publication on a social network where he proposed raising funds to shoot the president.

This would be done, according to the promoter of the crime, to hire a hitman to carry out the assassination.
