La Paz, August 3 (RHC)-- Bolivia has rejected the fascist coup attempt promoted by the U.S.-backed far right that seeks to disregard the presidential elections, through which Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was re-elected.

“The Plurinational State of Bolivia vigorously condemns the coup attempts against President Nicolas Maduro and the plans to override the will of the Venezuelan people expressed democratically at the polls on July 28,” the Bolivian Foreign Affairs Ministry stated.

“As a state that promotes the culture of dialogue and peace, Bolivia rejects the acts of violence that are being promoted to disrupt the constitutional order in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.”

“Self-determination of peoples and non-interference are fundamental principles of international law, which must be respected for coexistence among states,” it added.

During the 2024 election campaign, President Maduro repeatedly warned that the Venezuelan far right would not recognize the election results.  The voting day passed peacefully and without major incidents. On Sunday night, the National Electoral Council issued a first statement of results, showing that Nicolas Maduro, the candidate of the Great Patriotic Pole, had obtained 51.2 percent of the votes.

The next day, the electoral authorities proclaimed the Bolivarian leader as the constitutional president for the 2025-2031 term. Immediately, however, the Venezuelan far-right forces began to carry out acts of urban violence known as “guarimbas,” using the self-styled “Small Commands.”

Besides destroying public and private properties, these violent mercenary groups killed a soldier and injured about 80 police officers.  So far, authorities have detained over 1,000 people directly involved in urban violent actions.  They have been charged with crimes such as terrorism and incitement to hatred.
