Washington, August 13 (RHC)-- In a strong statement issued on Monday night, the presidential campaign team of U.S. Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris expressed concern about the use of the X social media platform, formerly known as Twitter, by business tycoon Elon Musk.

According to the statement, his recent live interview with former president and Republican candidate Donald Trump raises alarms about the influence Musk would exert on the democratic process in the United States.

"Musk has transformed Twitter into a breeding ground for hate speech and misinformation," the campaign team said.  "Now, he uses his immense fortune and remarkable reach to try to manipulate our democracy."

The Kamala Harris campaign stressed that Musk is promoting what it describes as Trump's "unhinged and hateful agenda" to millions of users, accusing him of being a "lackey" of the former president.

The controversial interview, which attracted more than a million viewers on the platform, highlights the impact that social media can have on contemporary politics.

The statements by Harris' team highlight a growing concern about the responsibility of business leaders in public discourse and the role of digital platforms in shaping opinions in the electorate. As elections approach, this episode reminds us of the importance of a healthy information environment in which constructive debate prevails.

This situation with Elon Musk is not the first; in Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro ordered the social network to be blocked because the tycoon was using the platform to promote a fascist coup, just as happened in Bolivia in November 2019.
