Managua, September 6 (RHC)-- The President of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, appointed Valdrack Jaentschke as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs this Thursday, replacing Denis Moncada, who will leave office for health reasons.

The government of Nicaragua announced the appointment of Valdrack Ludwing Jaentschke Whitaker as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs. Jaentschke, who until now served as Advisor to the President for International Affairs, is a career diplomat and has experience in managing the country's foreign relations.

Jaentschke Whitaker has been a minister counselor with consular functions at the Nicaraguan embassy in Costa Rica and has served as deputy minister of Foreign Affairs, Nicaraguan ambassador to Honduras, Guatemala and 15 other positions in the Sandinista administration.

Born on August 22, 1959 on the Corn Island, he is originally from Bluefields, in the southern Caribbean, a sociologist by profession and was an advisor on Institutional Development for the Ministry of Defense during the government of Enrique Bolaños (2002-2007).

He has also been a member of the Economic and Financial Cabinet representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, deputy minister of Foreign Affairs for the Caribbean, representative of Nicaragua to the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), and representative to the Caribbean Community (Caricom), among others.

The new foreign minister takes office after Foreign Minister Denis Moncada was relieved of his duties due to health problems.

Meanwhile, according to information provided at a press conference by Rosario Murillo, vice president of the Central American country, Moncada, who served as foreign minister from January 2017 to date, will continue as Minister Advisor to the President for International Policies and Affairs, as established in the Presidential Agreement.

“We salute Denis, who continues with us in another responsibility, and we also salute Valdrack, who assumes the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at these important times for our diplomacy,” declared the vice president.

The announcement of this change in the cabinet occurs in the midst of an international scenario in which Nicaragua seeks to strengthen its ties with allied countries such as Russia and China and the relief reinforces the diplomatic strategy of the Nicaraguan government on key issues such as sovereignty and international cooperation.

On his first day as minister of foreign affairs, Valdrack Jaentschke received the new Palestinian ambassador to Nicaragua, Rafat Mustafa Badran.  The ceremony to present the diplomas was held at the headquarters of the Nicaraguan Foreign Ministry, where Jaentschke reaffirmed the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

The new foreign minister is also coordinating a series of bilateral meetings to strengthen relations with allied countries within the framework of Nicaragua's diplomatic priorities.

The change in leadership at the Foreign Ministry marks a new stage in Nicaraguan foreign policy, with Jaentschke at the forefront of diplomatic efforts that the government considers key to facing current international challenges.
