Tel Aviv, September 8 (RHC)-- Three Israeli security officers were killed Sunday in a shootout on the King Hussein Bridge (Allenby Bridge), which crosses Jordan and the occupied West Bank, official sources said.

Israeli emergency services confirmed the deaths of the three officers in the shooting at the border crossing.  The shooter, who was identified as a Jordanian truck driver, was also later shot dead by Israeli forces at the crossing.

“We found three men on the ground unconscious, without a pulse or breathing, with gunshot wounds.  Together with the IDF (Israeli army) medical team, we made resuscitation efforts, but unfortunately we had to declare them dead,” said the Magen David Adom emergency service, the Israeli equivalent of the Red Cross.

After the incident, the authorities launched an investigation and announced the closure of the King Hussein Bridge, also known as the Karama/Allenby Bridge.

Nathmi Muhanna, director general of the Palestinian Borders and Crossings Authority, told the Palestinian news agency (WAFA) that traffic on the bridge, which connects the West Bank with Jordan, has completely stopped.
