Israel uses illegal white phosphorus weapons against Gaza and Lebanon

Caracas, October 11 (RHC)-- The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has expressed its concern over the use of internationally banned weapons in the Israeli genocide against Gaza, Palestine and Lebanon.

During the 107th meeting of the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the NAM expressed its concern, while warning, together with China, about the use of white phosphorus by the Zionist regime, which causes long-term damage to human health.  These countries welcomed the Palestinian request for the OPCW to monitor developments and investigate the threat of the Israeli regime's use of chemical weapons in Gaza.

The United States has sent 17.9 billion dollars in military aid alone to Israel since October 7. This accounts for the largest amount of military funding ever granted to Israel in a single year.

Iran's ambassador to the Netherlands and permanent representative to international organizations in The Hague, Hadi Farayvand condemned the use of chemical weapons and warned that such weapons are a serious threat to international and regional peace and security.  Hadi Farayvand denounced that the military and political support to Israel, has emboldened this regime to repeat its barbarism in Lebanon and Gaza by bombing populated areas, civilians and displacing the population there.

Iran's ambassador urged the OPCW to monitor developments in Gaza and Lebanon and stated that the goal of creating a world free of chemical weapons will not be achieved unless the convention is ratified by all, especially the Zionist regime, which has extensive plans for the production, development and use of chemical weapons.

Meanwhile, a report published by Brown University's Costs of War project stated that the United States has sent $17.9 billion in military aid to Israel since October 7, 2023, the largest amount of military funding ever granted to Israel in a single year.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health denounced that Israel's aggression has left more than 41,000 people killed, in a context where more than 1,000 health workers have been killed since the genocide began, and hundreds more have been kidnapped and held in Israeli concentration camps. Those who have been released share harrowing accounts of torture: shackling, electric shocks, broken limbs and sexual violence.

According to the Peoples Dispatch news platform, health problems in Gaza extend far beyond hospitals.  Peoples Dispatch is an international media organization with the mission of bringing to you voices from people's movements.  The news agency says that with more than two million people mired in poverty due to the attacks and aid blockade, food and clean water are in short supply. Recent reports reveal that 35 percent of children and 40 percent of pregnant or lactating women in Gaza survive on only one type of food.
