Montevideo, October 27 (RHC)-- The candidate of the Frente Amplio, Yamandú Orsi and the candidate for the presidency of Uruguay for the National Party, Álvaro Delgado, will face each other in the second round scheduled for November 24, after obtaining the most votes in the presidential elections held on Sunday.
The results of the elections coincided with the projections of the pollsters, which gave Orsi and Delgado as the most voted candidates in the first round of the elections.
According to data from the Electoral Court, with more than 99 percent of the vote count completed, the leftist Yamandú Orsi obtained 43.9 percent of the votes compared to 26.7 percent for the official candidate Álvaro Delgado.
Both candidates will face each other in the second round after obtaining the majority of the votes and not surpassing the 50 percent barrier of the votes.
Upon learning the preliminary results of the electoral process, the candidate Yamandú Orsi asked his supporters for "a last effort" in view of the second round.
"We are going in these 27 days for this last effort with more desire than ever, more standing than ever, comrades," proclaimed Orsi, who expressed his hopes for «a healthy and respectful electoral competition».
The socialist celebrated with thousands of his supporters the preliminary results of the presidential elections, stating that his political group, the Frente Amplio, was the party with the most votes in the elections.
For his part, the official candidate, Álvaro Delgado, stated that the Government coalition is the political project with the most votes in the elections and stressed that the forces that comprise it will cement a new victory on November 24.
Delgado addressed his supporters accompanied by the candidates of the remaining parties of the Government coalition: Andrés Ojeda (Colorado Party), Guido Manini Ríos (Cabildo Abierto), Pablo Mieres (Independent Party) and Eduardo Lust (Constitutional Environmentalist Party).
«Look, the ballot boxes have spoken, Uruguay has expressed itself in democracy and freedom. And tonight Uruguay said that the coalition is the most voted political project in our country," declared the candidate of the National Party.
Around 2.7 million citizens participated in the election of the president who will govern the country, considered the most stable democracy in Latin America, in the period 2025-2030.
