Gaza City, February 20 (RHC)-- Local media has reported that, as part of the ceasefire agreement and the exchange of Palestinian prisoners who will be released on Saturday in Gaza, is the director of the Kamal Adwan Hospital, located in the north of the Gaza Strip, Dr. Hussam Abu Safia.

Dr. Abu Safia was tortured by the Israeli regime after his detention in the hospital in late December and was held in solitary confinement for 24 days before being taken to Ofer prison in the occupied West Bank.

Israel deprived Dr. Abu Safia of his freedom, citing his association with Hamas, in violation of the right to a fair trial by limiting the detainee from knowing the charges against him and presenting evidence.

According to footage broadcast by Israel's Channel 13, Dr. Hussam Abu Safia is seen in Israeli prisons for the first time since he was arrested.  Local sources reported that Abu Safia is a patient of a prolonged heart muscle and chronic high blood pressure, and has lost at least 15 kilos during detention.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health has requested the release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safia, a pediatrician and director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, along with all medical staff who have been detained by Israel.

The Al Mezan Human Rights Center reported that Abu Safia met with his lawyer on Tuesday night in Ofer prison, 47 days after he was imprisoned by Israel.
