Roseau, December 6 (RHC) -- The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has mounted a CARICOM electoral observer mission to monitor the general elections to be held on December 8th, at the invitation of the government of Dominica.

The CARICOM electoral observer mission arrived in Dominica on December 4th and will stay there until the 11th.  It comprises members from Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago, as well as from the CARICOM Secretariat.

The mission will meet with the Dominican electoral officials and with leaders of all political parties.

The mission will also monitor the final days of the campaign and the technical preparations for the elections.

On the day of the elections, the observer mission will monitor the electoral process, including the opening of the poll, the voting process, the closing of the poll and the counting of ballots.

The mission will issue a preliminary statement based on the mission’s observations and findings. A report of the general elections will be subsequently prepared and submitted to the CARICOM Secretary-General.
