United Nations, February 16 (RHC-Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon on Sunday strongly condemned the two shooting attacks in Copenhagen, Denmark, saying there is no justification for attacks against civilians.

Two shooting attacks took place in Copenhagen, the Danish capital, Saturday and Sunday, with one taking place at a cultural center, where French Ambassador to Denmark Francois Zimeray and Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks were attending a meeting under the name of "Art, Blasphemy and Freedom of Expression." One man was killed and three police officers were injured.

In the other shooting reported hours later near Copenhagen's main synagogue, one person was shot dead and two more policemen were injured. The man suspected of perpetrating the shootings was identified in several Danish media outlets on Sunday as Omar El-Hussein, the son of Palestinian immigrants from Ain al-Hilweh, a refugee camp in Lebanon.

In a press statement released by Ban Ki-Moon's spokesperson, Ban said the UN stands in solidarity with the people and authorities of Denmark, and his thoughts are with the victims and their families.

"There is no space for antisemitism or any form of racial, ethnic or religious discrimination in today's world," said Ban in the statement.
