Bogotá, February 25 (RHC-teleSUR) -- Colombia’s Office of the Attorney General has asked the country’s Constitutional Court to declare a cooperation deal between the South American Country and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as “unconstitutional.”

In an official statement Tuesday, the attorney general office said the agreement "does not precisely define its purpose" and has "highly problematic" content regarding the precise determination of information to be exchanged.

The document adds that it is not clear which information could be obtained, saying that "it could be personal information and, in particular, sensitive personal data, with the consequent problem that the Attorney General will not be aware of what information is being used.”

The Security of Information Agreement, which was signed on June 25, 2013, does not formally recognize Colombia as a NATO partner but constitutes a first step for future cooperation in the area of security.

In September, the country's Congress has rejected the government's proposal for a communications alliance with the NATO.
