A torn-up sick note has been found showing that Germanwings co-pilot Andreas Lubitz was unfit for work on the day he is thought to have deliberately crashed a passenger plane in the French Alps, killing 150 people.

Among destroyed documents discovered at Lubitz’s home, German state prosecutors say they have found evidence that the 27-year-old had hidden an unspecified medical condition from his employer and colleagues.

The revelations follow press reports that Lubitz had broken off his training six years ago due to depression and had spent over a year in psychiatric treatment.
