Montevideo, April 24 (teleSUR-RHC)-- Former Uruguayan president Jose Mujica offered his help as a mediator in the Colombia peace talks in Havana on Thursday. Mujica said he will travel soon to Cuba to assist in the talks between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forced of Colombia (FARC). Specifically, Mujica said he wanted to talk to the FARC command.

“For me, the most important thing is to give support and give a hand. If I can help in some way, I’ll help anyone. Now, I have to go at the request of the Colombian president, to discuss something with the FARC leadership,” he said. “The task is to be open… and support everything that one can, in a positive way,” Mujica said.

Later, Colombian president Juan Santos published a Tweet expressing his appreciation for Mujica’s willingness to help, but made clear that he hasn’t nominated him to be a mediator. Spanish newspaper El Mundo had previously claimed that Mujica would mediate.
