La Paz, April 29 (PL-RHC)-- Bolivian President Evo Morales closed on Tuesday the electoral campaign for the run-off of regional elections in the departments of Tarija and Beni, with the intention to support their candidates.
According to analysts, Morales' presence will be determining for the candidates of the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) in both regions, the only regions in which balloting was necessary.
The Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) determined that the propaganda campaign ended on Wednesday and the head of State stated that he would be in Tarija on that date to support its candidate Pablo Canedo.
The elections on March 29th turned the MAS into a winner in the majority of the nine regions, a situation that could improve, as he expects, with victories in both regions.
In the Amazonian department of Beni, Alex Ferrier, MAS member, and Carlos Dellien, member of the alliance between Autonomous Nationalities for the Change and Revolutionary Empowerment (NACER) and Democratic Unity are running for the governing post.
Candidates in southern Tarija are Pablo Caneado (MAS) and ultra-right-wing Adrian Oliva (Departmental Autonomous Union).
