Bogota, May 12 (RHC-Telesur) -– Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos authorized the return of two members of the FARC to Colombia Monday to assist with landmine removal efforts amid ongoing peace talks in Havana.
According to Santos, the FARC –- Armed Revolutionary Forces of Colombia -- rebels will return to Havana to continue participating in peace talks once de-mining tasks are completed in Colombia.
Joint de-mining efforts are the result of agreements made in peace talks between the Santos government and the leftist rebel group, which have been ongoing since November 2012. The peace process aims to bring an end to more than 50 years of armed conflict that has claimed more than 220,000 lives and millions of other victims.
